Lisbon Apartment Veronica Charme

It is one of Lisbon´s most emblematic neighbourhoods, immortalised in a song by Sérgio Godinho on the Flea Market - Feira da Ladra. Veronica Charme is an excellent apartment for those seeking a short vacation in a city, but almost like being in a village. A mix of people ... young people began to conquer the neighbourhood a few years ago, yet the neighbour syndrome remained, where everyone knows each other.

In the Graça neighbourhood, particularly the Square (where this apartment is located) the days go by, there are always people passing, children and older people mingle in a healthy way just like in a village.

Verónica Charme brings with it the light of Lisbon. The white colour prevails throughout the house. From the living room to the bedrooms, without forgetting the kitchen. In the rooms, one with a double bed, the neutral shades appear in the blankets or the wall paper, breaking the whites with beige or brown tones. The décor is cosy, clean and in straight lines, letting each space live, torn by the several windows of the apartment.

The peculiarity of this neighbourhood is that it is not yet served by Metro, but has several other public means of transport, namely the typical nº 28 tram, that you cannot afford to miss.

Served by excellent restaurants, with almost familiar home cooking. Do not miss the Graça Belvedere, with a stunning view of the city's rooftops, with the River Tagus in the background.

Visit São Jorge Castle or Alfama, a place you can visit on foot. And since we spoke about the Flea Market, you may wish to know that here you will find almost anything at rock bottom prices, of course. From vintage objects, to clothing, toys, records or junk ... at the Feira da Ladra flea market there is always something for everyone and to suit all tastes.

If you search  Lisbon's highest hill you will find Graça. If you try to find the best view of Lisbon in Graça, you are in trouble. There are breathtaking views all around. If not the roofs and streets of the city, it is the river and the other bank.

Many families and young people live in this area. Small cafés and restaurants, groceries and shops keep the neighbourhood always active. There is movement in the streets and the trams are always passing. No wonder, we are two steps away from Baixa, the Castle and Avenida Almirante Reis.

Rest your eyes on Senhora do Monte Belvedere and your feet on Graça Belvedere. The esplanade is always full in Summer, but you are sure to find an available seat. Visit  Graça Church, Nossa Senhora do Monte Chappel and Mónicas Convent (where you can watch plays).

In an area which was once covered by olive groves and vegetable gardens, and some Muslim family homes, around 1147 began the construction of a great monastery. Most of the land belonged to the Augustinian monks. Through the times, families began to settle and the borders of the parish redefined. The number of inabitants increased mainly after the 1755 earthquake. The new inhabitants built, according to their standing, big palaces or simple homes. With the extinction of the religious orders in the neighbourhood, the Convent is turned into a garrison and the church on Largo de Santa Marinha is destroyed. The industrialization of Beato and Xabregas areas brings more families to settle in Graça. Patios, workers neighbourhoods and workers vilas appear, of which beautiful Vila Souza is an example.

If you are with young children, take them to "Pequeno Herói", the city's most curious children's bookshop (Largo da Graça, 79). At number 91, Rua da Graça, right in front of the old Royal Cine, listen to the fado at Tasca do Jaime. You cannot leave Graça without visiting A Voz do Operário (Workers' Voice). Born on February 13, 1883, the Sociedade Cooperativa A Voz do Operário is one of the most interesting examples of working for and with the community of a Lisbon neighbourhood. Today it is a true center of education and culture. Enjoy.
